Hello my students! We have talked about key signatures along with their respective sharps and flats. The circle of fifths shows how they relate to each other. As a whole, it is a simple yet brilliant arrangement of music theory that has been around for hundreds of years. Sadly, it has a reputation of being slightly on the complicated side. This 20 minute video makes it much more clear! Give it a watch. The first 8 minutes 20 seconds is just about how the circle of fifths function. The rest explains how the circle of fifths is important to composers. Interesting, but not necessary as you all are just starting out.
