tuition + expectations

Music is life, inspiration, joy, and oftentimes even therapy. My students learn confidence, discipline, and how to have fun while learning proper position and technique right from the beginning. I teach them that playing the cello, piano, or finding their own voice is a gift that will bless their lives whether with symphonies, accompanying others, as a soloist, or just for themselves. Following the expectations below not only will help you become a great musician, you'll have the time of your life doing it! On to the expectations:

tuition :: For all students, the flat tuition (covering four lessons per month, master classes, ensemble groups, and recitals) is due the first week of each month. Fifth weeks will be used solely for reschedules.

60-minute private lessons (cello, piano, voice) = $150/month

45-minute private lessons (cello, piano, voice) = $125/month

30-minute private lessons (piano, voice) = $100/month

45-minute Children's Chorus = $80/6-week session

* family/multi-instrument discount of 10%

what to bring :: Have your own instrument, music, books and non-spiral notebook (composition book is great) to each lesson.

punctuality :: Be on time to get the most out of your lesson time. We do live in New England, so I understand bad roads in the winter, but plan on a little extra time during inclement weather. In the event of extreme weather, I will reschedule lessons or offer a remote option.

attitude :: Come with a good attitude each week ready to learn. Be honest. Be patient with yourself. Do your best. Have fun!

practice :: Each student should be able to practice for the same duration as their lesson: i.e. 30 minute lesson = 30 min. of practice. I consider 6 of 7 days a full week of practice. I find it is easiest to schedule a time with yourself and your instrument that will be the same each day. *I will be requiring a practice log signed by a parent at the beginning of each lesson. Consistant practice will be a requirement to stay on my roster.

listening :: I require at least 30 minutes of music listening daily. Keep track of a favorite from each week to add to your practice log. This could be while doing homework, getting ready in the morning, or active listening. I will count on parents to incorporate this into your home at their discretion. My blog posts definitely count! (pandora.com classical stations are excellent) Listening benefits musicality immeasurably.

rescheduling :: If I need to reschedule, I will give you at least 24 hours notice. I would ask you the same courtesy. There will be occasions when I teach only 2 weeks in a month such as December and the beginning of the studio year due to vacations etc. when I will charge only half tuition.  There will be no rescheduling of rescheduled times, if you miss your rescheduled lesson, I consider that a forfeit for that particular week. Of course, there will be emergencies that cannot be anticipated — in those circumstances, just let me know as soon as you possibly can before the start time of the lesson.

master class :: On hiatus. Each year, I host two-hour master classes. Each student will perform a solo they are working on for their fellow musicians then get refining technique from me which all learn from. There will also be a music listening/history lesson as well. Master classes are covered in regular tuition.

recitals :: I will host both Christmas and Spring Recitals this year. I’m hoping to be able to coordinate a concert at a care center for the elderly for both, but location will be TBD. This will give all my students valuable performance experience as well as a chance to give the gift of music to others.

summers :: Each student is responsible for keeping their “playlist” current and preparing a back to studio concert for their first lesson back.
